3D/4D Scan of Baby Boy

On June 14th, the last day of my 31-week pregnancy, Erik, Katya, and I went for a 3D/4D scan to peek at our baby boy’s face. This was one of the things I wanted to do when I was pregnant with Katya, but I never got around to it. This time, I was determined to experience it!

I booked the appointment just a few days in advance at First Peek 3D/4D Ultrasound (here), and I was able to get in easily. I was greeted by the ultrasound tech, and we immediately started the session. There was a little play section for toddlers to keep Katya occupied, so I could relax and enjoy the time looking at my son. During the session, the ultrasound lady kept telling me that he has lots of hair, and I was thinking, no wonder I have so much heartburn! She said he has hair on his head and also on his back.

I was able to see his chubby cheeks and cute lips. I saw him yawn and play with his foot by grabbing it. It’s so reassuring to see that he’s doing well inside me. It helps during those rough moments—like throwing up or dealing with heartburn—when I picture his cute face in my head. It helps me push through the sleepless nights. We also saw him moving around, which explains a lot of what I’ve been feeling in my belly.

Like every single ultrasound, no matter how much I moved around, his face was really hard to capture. He always smushes his face against the placenta, and I guess he’s just super comfy there haha. At least I got a little peek at his chubby face though. At the end of the session, since Katya loved the unicorn plushie, we decided to put his heartbeat sound inside the unicorn as a keepsake. Katya seems to half understand that it’s her little brother’s heartbeat now. She occasionally hugs it and tells me it’s her brother, which is so sweet. I cannot wait for Katya to meet him in August!

To pregnancy and motherhood,

Fatima
