22 Jun Nemophila Heaven in Nara

When we decided to go to Japan in early May, I thought it would be a great chance to check something off my wishlist. That wishlist item was to witness the beautiful sea of nemophila and document it. There are many places where you can see this sea of blue flowers. One of the most famous spots is in Tokyo, but since we were visiting my family on the west side and planned to stay there for most of our two-week trip, I looked for a location closer to us.

Nemophila has such a short peak blooming period, so finding the perfect timing—when our schedule was open, the flowers were at their best, and our photographer was available—wasn’t easy. But I’m so glad we made it work. I thought it was perfect timing, especially since I’m expecting a boy, to take a sweet maternity photo in that dreamy blue carpet. The scenery was truly magical—it looked like a page torn straight out of a fairytale. If you’re planning a trip to Japan between late April and mid-May, I hope you take a little detour to see these stunning baby blues.

Within the same park in Nara, a variety of other flowers were also in bloom, so we took some photos with the red poppies to honor Katya and our girly bond. I’ll tell you more about this beautiful spot in my next post and share some of the poppy pics too!
