31 Oct Wizard of Oz

Happy Halloween! Our second family Halloween for 2025 was Wizard of Oz! I chose this classic theme not only because Wicked has a new movie coming out and it’s super trendy right now, but also because of Maverik’s zodiac sign. I also wanted to share why I cast each of us in our roles!

Maverik – Lion
I basically built the whole theme around Maverik. Dressing a baby as an animal is a must — it’s just too cute! Plus, animal onesies are usually warm, fluffy, and extra cuddly.
Since Maverik is a Leo, a lion felt perfect. I ordered an adorable one from Amazon, and once I decided he’d be a lion, I started thinking about family costumes to match. At first, I considered zoo animals and a zookeeper, but then I remembered there’s a Lion in Wizard of Oz — and that sealed the deal!
Just look at this little lion! He has no idea what Halloween even is and technically doesn’t need to dress up since he’s too small for trick-or-treating… but of course I had to dress him up anyway. These are the few years I have full control over his outfit choices, and I’m taking full advantage of it!
This lion isn’t scary at all… except maybe during blowouts…

Katerina – Dorothy
Someone has to be the main character, right? Katerina definitely has main-character energy — complete with a tornado personality (hoping that part is just a phase). So, Dorothy was perfect for her. Plus, she looks way cuter in braided pigtails than I ever could.
I found the sweetest sparkly Dorothy dress at Target and ordered sparkly red shoes from Amazon. She is obsessed with those shoes! I had to stop her from wearing them around the house before Halloween because I was afraid she’d ruin them. Now that Halloween is over, she can wear them as much as she wants.
Ever since getting her costume, she’s been playing with and even sleeping next to Toto. Sparkly Dorothy with her little Amazon Toto might just be the cutest thing ever.

Fatima – Glinda
If you remember my earlier post where Katerina dressed as a purple witch, she kept asking me to be a pink witch. Well… unintentionally, it came true!
I love anything big dresses, pink, and crowns, so Glinda was perfect for me. The costume came with a wand and crown, but I ordered prettier versions separately to make it extra fabulous. The first wand that came with the costume was too short, so I replaced it with a longer one that even makes sounds! Needless to say, Katerina thought I was the coolest mom ever with my magical sound-making wand.

Erik – Tin Man
Last but not least, my hubby. I thought he could be the Scarecrow, Tin Man, or even the Wicked Witch of the West. I quickly ruled out the Wicked Witch because I highly doubted he’d agree to paint his face green.
So, I gave him a choice between brainless and heartless — and he chose heartless (very fitting, haha). Honestly, Tin Man was the perfect choice. His gray hair matches the Tin Man color perfectly!

Trick-or-Treating Fun
For trick-or-treating, we decided to go to my sister-in-law’s neighborhood since our area doesn’t have many houses close together. It worked out perfectly because she and her husband were hosting a Halloween party for the family. We arrived dressed and ready for a fun night.
There were adorable witch-themed decorations, Halloween drinks, and fun finger foods. Everyone brought something themed — and I brought bloody brie with a syringe “stuck” in the cheese. I chose the simplest one from Pinterest but there were so many creative ideas I wanted to try… maybe next year when I have more brain capacity.

Katerina had such a fun time trick-or-treating this year! The neighborhood is fairly new with newly built homes, but everyone really came together to make it spooktacular for the kids. Many houses went all out with decorations, and it was so fun walking around and seeing everything.
We probably visited 20+ houses, and her basket was completely full of candy. She loved chatting with people and got so many compliments on her sparkly Dorothy outfit. The sparkle actually worked great unintentionally— it reflected light in the dark, making her easier for people and cars to spot when we crossed the street (safety win!).

Maverik stayed back with family members while Erik, my father-in-law, Katerina, and I went out trick-or-treating together. Another sweet Halloween memory added to the books. I can’t wait for the year Maverik gets to join us too!
Hope you all had a safe and fun Halloween this year!

Happy Halloween,
Fatima
