18 Oct Nordic Forest

We are almost at Halloween! And here is our first family Halloween outfit reveal. This year’s theme is Nordic Forest.
The reason for choosing this theme was simple: I needed something low budget but still impactful and easy to recognize. While browsing the Pottery Barn Kids website (which everyone should do because their kids’ costumes are so adorable and high quality), I came across a gnome costume and instantly fell in love with the look.

I’m a big fan of dressing little kids and babies as elderly characters. One time Katya even dressed up as Queen Elizabeth! I think babies and elderly people have a funny similarity — the same gummy smiles. So, when I saw the white beard on the gnome costume, I knew that was the one.
Even though he looked incredibly cute in the costume and I wanted him to wear it for longer, he did not enjoy the beard on his face. So, we had to snap the photos quickly before he decided he was completely done with it. Regardless, I love him gnome-atter what (get it? lol).

Katerina was obviously the perfect choice for a fairy. She absolutely loved her wings and wand — and you really can’t go wrong with a fairy costume, right? This Amazon-ordered fairy outfit has already gotten a lot of use around the house. Getting dress-up and pretend sessions are always magical.

The mushroom hat was also from Amazon. Even though Erik only needed to wear the hat, it somehow took days of convincing. Luckily, he finally agreed, and with the neon green outfit he happened to be wearing that day, he looked exactly like a poisonous mushroom haha.

As for me, I had a few ideas: a flower, an animal like a fox, or maybe a butterfly. But in the end, I wanted to try a little DIY. I wanted something cheap but still fun, so I decided to go as a snail. If you want to be fancy, you can call it escargot.
This costume cost me less than $2. I used postal paper, a cardboard box, and some leftover fabric scraps, and simply taped everything together. I did buy the snail headband from Amazon though… so technically it’s a little more than $2. But I love how cheap and simple it is while still being unmistakably a snail.

I love how this whole theme turned out. The kids are clearly the main characters here anyway!
We actually have another family Halloween costume planned, so hopefully you’ll see us again in the next Halloween post.

Happy Halloween,
Fatima
